Zoya Rowan

Zoya Rowan is part of the Naturel Satins Collection for 2015.
Zoya Rowan is a pale taupey mushroom color that is much lighter and less brown than the promo images. A truly gorgeous color but the formula just stinks. I'm going to try adding quite a bit of thinner if I ever use Rowan again. I really want to love this collection but they just aren't working out for me.

PROS

  • All of the colors are drop dead gorgeous, unique and complement each very nicely. Seriously lovely color choices!
  • Wear time seems very good for a polish meant to be worn without a topcoat, much better than most matte polishes.
  • I love new ideas in polish and the Satin finish definitely appeals to me.
  • The frosted bottles are beautiful.
  • Dry time is good for a polish without topcoat
CONS
  • So far the formula has been super frustrating for me. I feel like I've tried every application technique I can think of with no luck. They just don't self-level well and since they are meant to be worn without a topcoat that is a problem. You also can't go back over an area at all or you will get dragging. I just can't make them work!
  • Some friends think the finish looks like paint for the interior walls of a house or just plain old acrylic paint. I don't think these will have broad appeal to ladies who aren't really into nail polish.
So what's my verdict? You'll have to decide for yourself.  I love the idea of the Zoya Satin collection but I'm still having a lot of trouble with the formula. I'm glad to have them but I feel like they would be very frustrating for the average polish user. And the finish certainly isn't for everyone either. Give them a try if you don't mind a bit of extra work when doing your nails and you love weird finishes like I do.

I am a voracious reader. You can check out what I'm reading on my Goodreads profile! This book was gross and hilarious, not something I thought I would enjoy but it's just imaginative to put down.

Thanks for reading

  1. This is a beautiful one but I guess I have to pass on this one. It seems thick for maybe because that it is hard to apply and it needs lots of coats to achieve the look that you want.

    1. I have seen posts from people I trust that didn't have as much of a problem as I did. I'm also hoping that adding thinner will help. Definitely a bit of a risky polish buy though.

  2. as you said i think the colors are beautiful, but it suck that they don't level very well. I hate finishes with dragging lines....

  3. I've been disappointed with managing to apply this finish well too, but what worked for me (with Ana) was doing a thin first coat (looks terrible), letting it dry, and then doing a thick second coat (thick enough it wouldn't dry right away) where I just spread it around and could let it level more as it dried. The "two/three thin coats" advice I've read online for it really didn't work out for me. My experience regardless makes me doubt I'll get any others in this collection.
